SHIRLEY ANN SEIDEL
Shirley Ann Seidel (Roda) of Flint, age 90, died on December 19 at Springvale Assisted Living & Memory Care in Swartz Creek. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 27 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, Michigan, Father Thomas Firestone officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 26 from Noon – 8:00 pm at Swartz Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Michigan.
A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm Monday, at the funeral home.
Shirley was born on June 17, 1932, to Frank and Mary Roda. A proud “North End girl,” she graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1950. Over the next seven decades, she was the loving mother of six children: Linda Havlichek (Frank), Karen Larson (Kim), Sandra Scott (Ken), William Jentzen, James Jentzen (Anita), and Julie Gorton (Mark). She was also the grandmother of 13 and the great-grandmother of 13.
Shirley’s love of her family was matched only by her devotion to her church. She was a Eucharistic minister at St. John Vianney, as well as a member of the church’s altar care team. She was an avid gardener, bowled for many years, and was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football. In her later years, she liked nothing more than to spend her mornings watching and feeding the birds and the occasional deer in the backyard of her beloved Clayton Township home. Her final months were spent at Springvale Assisted Living, under the loving care of the staff of who treated “Miss Shirley” like she was their own mom. Her family will always be grateful for their dedication.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, her brother Donald Roda, her sister Barbara Haggard, and her granddaughter Rachel Scott. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous members of her extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, or to the St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center, 3115 Lawndale Avenue, Flint, Michigan 48504.
