Olga Oksana Swarthout, of Flushing, Michigan, formerly of Holly, age 75, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church. Fr. Bogdan Rybchuk will officiate. Burial to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at Rossell Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 23 with a 7 p.m. Panaciada, and 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the Mass. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church.



Olga was born in Melun, France on November 6, 1947, to Nicholas and Irena Kataryna (Iwanicki) Chomik. She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School in Flint, Michigan where she was the church organist. She continued her education and earned her degree from the University of Michigan. She married Wilbur “Bill” Swarthout II on June 24, 1972. Together they loved to host and entertain guests and family for holidays and dinners at their home in Holly. The two of them raised Barbados sheep and were proud to be ecofriendly, always composting and being environmentally conscious. Olga was an avid reader and a regular at her local library. She loved to travel and enjoyed lighthouses. One of the accomplishments she was most proud of was becoming a lighthouse keeper for the Grand Traverse Lighthouse. She was a proud member of St. Vladimir and will be deeply missed by all who love her.



She is survived by her siblings, Mary (Michael) Martin and Daria (Christopher) Godfrey; siblings-in-law, Dorothy (Dutch) Franz, Paul (Carol) Swarthout, Glennie (Jim) Duke, and James Wasalaski; nieces and nephews, Melissa (Bill) Bueche, Nick (Savannah) Martin, Lesya Godfrey, Katie (Colin Howell) Godfrey, Mary Grace Narkhi, Anastassia (Robbert) Cassady, John (Allie) Godfrey, and Michael Godfrey; great-nieces and nephews, Chloe, Sophie, Maisie, Madison Jane, Catherine, Felix, Sebastian, Cassian, Anya, Genevieve, Ivanka, and Dmitri; cousin, Katerina Kravchuk; and many other relatives in Ukraine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Swarthout, and both her parents.
