FABELA, Isaac V. “Big Chief” & “Ike” – of Montrose, age 102 & 1/2, died Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his residence, with his family by his side. Family will receive friends Tuesday February 2, 2021 from 2-8 PM at O’Guinn Family Funeral in Montrose. Due to Covid 19 and government regulations, only 25 people are allowed in our chapel at one time and masks are required. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Funeral and burial with military honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, will be private. Memorial donations may be considered to either Footprints of Michigan, or Buddy’s PALS.

Ike was born June 6, 1918 in Midland City, Texas to Francisco and Tiofila (Vidales) Fabela, and after his mother’s passing was raised by Concha Ramos. He served his country proudly as an MP Specialist in the United States Army. After the war he went to work in Shipping and Receiving for General Motors and retired in 1972. He married Phyllis Golfe in Flint, Michigan and she sadly preceded him in death in December of 1993. He was a member of the Gordon R. Bennett VFW Post 1452 in Clio, the Montrose Masons, Lions, Eagles and Odd Fellows. Ike was also active with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flint and enjoyed helping at the Boy Scouts Derby’s. He was involved in many activities in the Montrose area, from helping with the Blueberry Festival, getting the softball fields built or serving on the Montrose Twp. Board. The family would also like the thank all of his many Facebook followers at Beyond 100, a journey with Ike Fabela WWII vet. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are: Children, Roseann (Phil) Rice, Margarita Hartman, Lolie (Sharon) Fabela, Maria (Ed) Wrocklage, Linda (Troy) Renshaw, Bobbie (Gene) Boswell and Kimmie Fabela; Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren, to many to count; Sisters: Julia (Pedro) Berlanga, Rosa (Ramiro) Lambaria, Lucia (Vincente) Pachech; nieces and nephews to many to count. He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; his parents, his daughters Francis Calorio and Patricia Hawes; brother Alejandro Fabela.
