Jacqueline Lois Herington, 76 of Columbiaville died on May 14, 2021. She was born on February 12, 1945 in Traverse City, Michigan to the late Arthur and Clara Grant. She was the youngest of ten children, who were all lifelong best friends.
She spent 30+ years working at Gregory’s Canvas in Lapeer. She then retired after ten years at Bryan’s Supermarket in Deerfield Township, where she invited anyone who came through her line over for dinner and a game of cards. She loved camping, playing cards, spending time with family and a menagerie of cats and dogs she adopted over the years.
Jackie was a true original who was loved by all who knew her. She was a jokester who loved peppering people with water balloons, singing oldies, late night shopping trips and marathon Monopoly games. Jackie had never met a stranger and took in any stray (person or animal) to share all she had. She would not only offer anyone her last dollar, she would sew them a scarf, bake them treats and treat them with kindness and respect.
She is survived by her greatest joy, her son Adam of Fremont, Indiana; four sisters, Julia Johnson of Suttons Bay, Louise Schaub of Traverse City, Betty Cole and her husband Cal of Traverse City and Bernice Conrad of Columbiaville. She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews who all loved “Aunt Jacks” without limits.
Jackie lived a simple life full of love, laughter, friends and family and truly cherished each day. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her (or beat her at a game of cards).
She is proceeded in death by her siblings Marvin Grant, Doris Skipski, Elmer Grant, James Grant, and Eldon Grant.
A celebration of her life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church at 11:00am on Thursday, May 20, with a luncheon to follow at Deerfield Township Hall. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you pass along Jackie’s unlimited selflessness and kindness. Be kind. Forgive someone. Call a friend or relative. Help those down on their luck. Laugh. Arrangements entrusted to Jansen Family Funeral Home – Columbiaville. |
