NIELSEN, Rosalie F. – Formerly of Flint and Burton, died at home in the loving care of family on Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Alexander, North Carolina, age 96.

Visitation 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint,
Father James Mangan officiating.


Mrs. Nielsen will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.

Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Rosalie was born on Feb. 8, 1922 in Gladwin Michigan, the eldest daughter of George J and Elizabeth (Leininger) Rasch. As she grew older she tended to their 80-acre farm. She attended Flint St. Matthew’s School and country school in Yale, MI. After graduating from Yale H.S. she took courses at Baker Business School and then was employed by Chevrolet Motor Division, Factories 4 and 7 in Flint as a teletype operator in the Parts and Service Dept., retiring in July, 1957 with 14 ¾ years of service. She married Eugene R. Nielsen at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Flint on August 15, 1953. They were married 55 ½ years until Eugene’s passing in February 2009. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, sewing, and nature-watching. She was the Proverbs Chapter 31 mom in service to her family, friends, and neighbors. She attended St. Matthews’s Church for 59 years as well as being a former member of other Catholic parishes in Flint through 2009. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 sons, Andrew of Arden, N.C. and Dar (Ardith) Nielsen of Flint, MI., daughter Lisa Kancsar (Dennis) of Alexander, N.C., 3 grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Evanson of Lake Orion, MI., Kiel Nielsen of Burton, MI. and Chelsea Kancsar of Alexander, N.C. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Elin and Rowan Evanson of Lake Orion, MI. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Marie Rasch of Venice, FLA., Dorothy Brandon of Port Charlotte, FLA. and JoAnn (Gerald) Tenbusch of North Port, FLA. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Lawrence, Bernard and Donald Rasch and a sister Gertrude Prochazka. She also leaves behind a host of loving extended family members and friends. They would like to thank the many caregivers and staff along her journey who have extended arms of compassion and become dear to their hearts.
