Nixon, Wayne V. of Flushing, age 95, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Flushing United Methodist Church. Pastor JJ Mannschreck will officiate. Private burial will be at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at Rossell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.
Wayne was born in Flint, Michigan on September 18, 1926, the son of Cecil and Magdalena (Thiel) Nixon. He married Margaret Larner on February 14, 1949. She preceded him in death on August 4, 2004. Wayne worked for General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. He built their family home buying materials and supplies as money would allow. Together with his wife, they enjoyed Square Dancing and later Round Dancing. He was a faithful member of Flushing United Methodist Church since 1988. He loved spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. Wayne enjoyed reading non-fiction, mostly as it pertained to hunting and fishing and doing sudoku puzzles. He will be remembered for his famous phrase “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”
Wayne is survived by his children, Diane Nixon of Ann Arbor, Barbara and husband Bill McDonald of Alpena, Edward and wife Cheryl Nixon of Flushing, Beverly and husband Gary Atchison of Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Margareet; parents; daughter, Doris Moore; two sisters and one brother.
