WHALEY, John Ivan, Sr. - Age 74, of Fenton, died Sunday, October 3, 2021. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 8, 2021 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton (A live stream of the service will be available on John's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Fenton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. John was born December 12, 1946 in Saginaw, the son of Ivan and Alberta (Hall) Whaley. He was a 1965 graduate of Fenton High School and he received an BA from Michigan State University. He married Susan Marie Baird May 28, 1971 in Fenton, and she preceded him in death July 11, 2007. He had resided in Fenton his entire life. John retired from PowerFlow Engineering, Inc in Westland. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are: his children, Stephen (Melissa) Whaley of Flushing, Tracey (Jud) Hudnut of Howell, Angie (Ryan) Schmoekel of Grand Haven, and John (Bree) Whaley, Jr. of Holland; grandchildren, Breonna and Ashleigh Whaley, Logan, Tyler, and Nolan Hudnut, Bradley Schmoekel, Emily, Kendall, and Spencer Whaley; sister, Lorraine (Randy) Smith of North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Les (Deanna) Baird, Roy (Susan) Baird, Jeff Melanie Baird, and Jim (Lynn) Baird; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Baird and Laura (Doug) Hecox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Diane Whaley and Marilyn Battiste; his identical twin brother, Jim Whaley; and in-laws, Harold and Violet Baird. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
