LATSON, Harland - Of Grand Blanc, age 85, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026 at Wellbridge of Grand Blanc.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30am Monday, June 1, 2026 at St. Marks Catholic Church, 7296 Gale Road, Grand Blanc, MI 48439, Father David Howell officiating.
Visitation 2-8pm Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Vigil Service will be held 7pm Sunday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 10:30am Monday at the church until the time of the Mass.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Elara Care Hospice or St. Mark’s Catholic Church.
Harland was born in Howell, Michigan on March 27, 1941, the son of the late Roy and Theresa Maxine (Gehringer) Latson. Harland married Jean Mahoney on July 28, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell and she preceded him in death in 2024. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Harland was a huge supporter of all Michigan based sport teams, especially the Detroit Tigers. He enjoyed playing Euchre, especially his best friend Pat, doing yard work and lived for his children and grandchildren. Harland retired from General Motors after 38 years of service.
Surviving are daughters, Lynne Anthony of Grand Blanc, Linda (Tim) Chmiel of Temperance and Liz (Jan) Nelson, who was like a daughter to Harland and Jean;
grandchildren, Kayla Chmiel of Alexandria, VA, Meghan Chmiel of Tempe, AZ and Christian Faiola of Grand Blanc;
siblings, Virginia Browne of Grand Rapids, Ed (Kay) Latson of Byron;
sisters-in-law, Kay Sumpter (Mahoney) of Florida, Sue Mahoney of Brighton;
brothers-in-law, John Michael Mahoney of AZ and Kevin (Kathy) Mahoney of FL;
and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jean Latson, son-in-law, Mark Anthony, sister, Nora McKenzie, sister-in-law, Janet Stahl, Jonnie Cole, Bev Mahoney, brothers-in-law, Harry Browne, Jack Stahl, Pat Mahoney and Tim Mahoney.
