ATKINSON, Darl Junior– of Vernon, MI, age 79, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Monday, December 9, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Deacon Greg Middleton officiating. Interment immediately following the service in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4 – 7 PM Sunday and 11 AM – 12 PM on Monday at Allen Funeral Home. A time for Sharing of Memories will be held at 6 PM Sunday, December 8, 2024 followed by a Rosary at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, in Darl’s memory.
Darl was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI on November 29, 1945, son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy Atkinson. On December 6, 1964, Darl married Theresa Atkinson in Mount Pleasant, MI. He worked for GM and retired on June 30, 1994 after 30 years of service. Darl was quite the craftsmen as he enjoyed building battle ships and planes. He also built several homes for his family. Darl enjoyed traveling, when possible, and hunting with his best friend and grandson, Christopher. Darl was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed snowmobiling and ice fishing with his son Steven. He loved his family dearly and cherished time together camping, family celebrations and holidays with all he loved.
Darl is survived by his four children, Sherry (Chris) Hathaway, Tamala (Brent) Savidant, Christina (Timothy) Carr and Steven (Kristin) Atkinson; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Elton Atkinson; many other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Atkinson; wife of sixty years, Theresa Atkinson; son, Kenneth Atkinson; brothers, Lloyd Atkinson and Wayne Atkinson.
