David James Helzer

David James Helzer passed from this world into the loving arms of Jesus on April 28, 2021. He was 79 years old. David was born into this world on February 15, 1942 to David and Margaret (Alm) Helzer in Flint, Michigan. He was adopted by Viola M. (West) Helzer at the age of 6, after the untimely passing of his mother, Margaret a few years earlier. Viola raised David as her own son and David always knew her as mom. David’s dad, David and mom Viola, along with a sister, Janet Blady Helzer and wife Cheryl Helzer, preceded David in death.
David grew up in Flint, Michigan and attended Flint Northern High School. David enlisted into the United States Army in 1959 and served until 1963, much of that time stationed in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion and proudly served at military funerals. David was also a devout member of the First Presbyterian Church of Flint and a member of the Men’s Weekly Bible Study.
David is survived by his sisters, Charlotte (Kirk) Forr; Carole Foote; brother, Kurt (Ann) Helzer; 7 nephews and 1 niece, of whom he was very proud and loved dearly.
A private Memorial Service celebrating David’s life here on earth will be held at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
