SMOTHERS, JOANN – Of Mt. Morris, age 84, died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. Max B. Hayden officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Susan Komen Foundation.
Visitation 1 p.m.– 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. Until the time of the service at the funeral home.
JoAnn was born on June 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Floyd and Veronica (Krzyzak) Malak.
On January 15¸1970 she married Thomas Smothers and he preceded her in death on July 26, 2018.
JoAnn worked at McLaren as a nuclear medicine technician for many years. She was one of the first in the area.
She loved working in her flower gardens, shopping with her family, canning and traveling all over the world, especially Africa.
Surviving are daughter, Deborah (Michael) Davis;
grandchildren, Ryan Allen, Taylor (Nick) Ahearn, Alexandria (Branden) Hendershot, Tobias Davis, Cody Davis and Bryce Davis;
great-grandchildren, Willow, Keelyn, Carson, Kyla, Abigail and Jett;
nieces and nephews, Michael Gluski (Liu Rui), Heather Gluski (Bill Eddy) and Mike (Tanya) Malak.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Malak
