Ishwar Dass, M.D. of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born and raised in India, son of Dr. Ram Pratap and Savitri Goel. He attended King George’s Medical School in Lucknow and then proudly served as a staff surgeon in the Indian army prior to immigrating to the United States with his family in 1966.
After completing his orthopedic training at Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA and at Duke University, he settled in Flint, Michigan where he practiced as a well-respected orthopedic surgeon for over 30 years. He took pride in being one of the founding members of the orthopedic training program at McLaren Hospital.
His family meant the world to him and he was a loving Papa to his four grandchildren. He and his wife Shakuntla enjoyed spending winters in Florida and playing bridge whenever there was an opportunity. He cherished his many friends in the community and was always eager to meet and chat at get-togethers.
He is survived by his wife, Shakuntla; sons, George (Sunny) and Bawa (Sunita); grandchildren, Shaun (Ridhi), Sabrina (Prateek), Karsin, and Ajay; and great-grandson Rahm.
Visitation 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 with service to follow from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Akshaya Patra Foundation
(akshayapatra.org) to provide school meals to impoverished children in India.
