RASMUSSEN, Lawrence “Larry” E. – of Davison, MI, age 77, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Monday, May 8, 2017 at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, 4040 Lapeer Road, Burton, MI 48509; Pastor Susan Lidums officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. The family will receive visitors 2-6 PM Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Monday, May 8, 2017 at Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, in Larry’s memory.
Larry was born in Battle Creek, MI on May 1, 1940, son of the late Thue and Minnie (Flo) Rasmussen. He married Sharon Folland on June 22, 1963. Larry graduated from Western Michigan University Class of 1963 where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. He then earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Michigan Class of 1967. Larry was employed with Kearsley Community Schools from 1963-1980 as a Band Teacher, Guidance Counselor and High School Assistant Principal. He was also employed with Bendle Schools from 1965-1967 as a Band Director. Most recently, Larry was employed with Mt. Morris Schools as a Guidance Counselor from 1980 until his retirement in 2002. Larry was an active member of Our Risen Lord Lutheran Church, where he was active in the music program, singing in the choir and providing instrumental accompaniments. He was also a committed and talented musician, playing various instruments in several different concert bands including, the Genesee Wind Symphony and the Flint Concert Band.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Sharon; 2 children, Brian Rasmussen of Burton, MI and Stephanie Rasmussen of Clio, MI; brother, Thue (Uttara) Rasmussen of Falcon Heights, MN; sister, Janet Walkinshaw of Holt, MI; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Rasmussen.
