Crandall, Richard E. “Dick” – of Montrose, age 73, died Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at McLaren Flint. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Don O’Guinn will officiate. Burial to follow in Cook Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 1-8 PM and Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service. A Firemen’s Memorial will be held at 7 PM Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Montrose Firefighters Association.
Dick was born November 24, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Richard and Marilyn (Quackenbush) Crandall. He graduated from Birch Run High School in 1969. Dick has resided in Montrose for over 50 years. He married Trudy Schanick on May 27, 1972. Dick was employed by Grand Trunk Railroad (later Canadian National) for 42 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Labor Union. Dick was also a 32 year member of the Montrose Township Fire Department, where he served as Sgt. Driver. He was honored as the Durand Railroader of the Year in 2019. Dick was also a charter member of the Montrose Eagles – Blueberry Aerie # 4090. He was also a longtime member of the Over the Hill Gang softball team in Montrose and was active with several Montrose bowling teams. Dick also enjoyed playing Santa Claus for community events and serving as a volunteer for the Montrose Blueberry Festival.
Surviving are: Wife, Trudy; 2 daughters: Tiffany (Matthew) Hassett and Stacy (Chad) Lee; 3 grandchildren: Nicholas (Dylan), Maddie, and Kannon; Sister, Carol (Roger) Wright; Extended family, the Giffords.
