KILLIAN, Russell, Sr. – of Clio, age 98, died Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Maple Woods Manor. Funeral service will be held 11AM Monday, December 18, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Rev. Carol J. Freeland officiating. Burial at West Vienna Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 1PM until 8PM and Monday from 10AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
Russell was born May 29, 1925, in Millington, to the late Edward and Addie (Cook) Killian. He graduated from Clio Community Schools and was the head stock clerk at Fisher Body for over 33 years, retiring in 1986. Russell proudly served as a Seaman 1st Class in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1945, Russell was aboard the USS Philadelphia - the ship that escorted President Harry S. Truman to the Potsdam Conference in Potsdam, Germany, where Soviet, British, and US leaders negotiated the end of World War II. On May 11, 1946, Russell married the love of his life, Helen Ann Scott, and together they shared 58 years of marriage. Helen preceded him in death on February 18, 2004. During his younger years, Russell attended Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. Russell enjoyed keeping himself busy working in the yard, tending to his garden, or helping on the family farm. He often liked to do woodworking and go pheasant hunting with his children. Russell was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed.
Russell is forever remembered by his Children: Scott Killian and Andy Killian; Grandchildren: Dan, Valerie, and Adam; Sister, Lois; Several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Killian; Son, Russell Killian, Jr.; Siblings: Edith, Robert “Bob”, Marge, and Betty. |
