BORCHELT, Irvin “Mr. B” – of Flint, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Henry Ford Genesys. A Funeral Service will be held at 6 PM on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 6100 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Pete Scribner and Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. co-officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Monday from 4 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Worship Anew - Lutheran Ministries Media. Cremation will take place following the service, and a Memorial Service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 300 N. Huntersville Rd., Batesville, IN 47006; Rev. Joseph Feldmann and Rev. Dave Johnston co-officiating. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 AM until the time of service on Saturday at church in Indiana.
Irvin was born in Batesville, IN on July 19, 1944, son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Westmeyer) Borchelt. He married LaDonna Deffner on May 9, 1964, in Oldenburg, IN. Irvin proudly served in the US Air Force; he was stationed in Turkey and England. He was a teacher lovingly known to his students as “Mr. B”. He taught for more than 30 years at various Flint Community Schools including Whittier Junior High, Southwestern, Northwestern, Kennedy Center and Cody Elementary. “Mr. B” also taught Drivers Ed at Genesee, Beecher and Flint Community Schools for 17 years. Irvin was a member at Calvary Presbyterian Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling and playing cards; but his greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family.
Irvin is survived by his loving wife, LaDonna Borchelt; two daughters, Michelle Borchelt and Bettina (David) Jimenez; grandchildren, Andrew and Alyssa Jimenez, Jared (fiancé, Allie Robbins) and Gavin Haack; sisters, Evelyn Holman, Arlene (Mike) Neyer, Bev (Jeff) Schwier; sister-in-law, Lorraine Hentz; honorary daughter, Jennifer Davis; many other loving family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Irvin was preceded in death by sister, Shirley (Ray) Marcum; brother-in-law, Tom Holman; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Emma and Sylvan Deffner; sister-in-law, Wanda (Bill) Swain; brother-in-law, Tom Hentz.
