Winifred Evelyn (Hocken) Howe passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023 surrounded by her family.
Winnie was born May 29, 1931 in Flint Michigan to Amelia (Phillips) and Harry Hocken. She graduated from Flint Tech and worked at Buick Motor Division. She married Bruce Howe March 6, 1953 and just celebrated their 70th anniversary.
As a life-time member of Asbury Methodist Church she was active in WSCS/UMW, Sunday School, and sang in the Chancel Choir her entire life. She was an expert pasty maker for the pasty sales for decades. Winnie volunteered at Hurley Auxiliary and McLaren Gift Shop.
Winnie had a caring heart and often fed many neighborhood cats. She was an avid cookie baker and always had a warm cookie on the counter when you came to her home. Often you’d find her sitting on the swing at Pickerel Lake waiting for family to arrive.
Surviving her are husband, Bruce, daughter, Diane (Howe) Vyvyan and husband Warren Vyvyan, son, Jeffrey Bruce Howe and wife Kathryn (Russell) Howe; grandchildren Laura Vyvyan, Allen and wife Lauren Vyvyan, Jessica (Howe) McKinsey and husband Jeff, Emily Howe and fiance Greg Marczewski; Great-Grandchildren Henry Vyvyan, Elizabeth Vyvyan, Emma McKinsey, Sophia Vyvyan, Edgar and Arthur Sanborn and Jack McKinsey.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26 at Brown Funeral Home - 1480 E. Hill Road in Grand Blanc, MI. A service will be held Thursday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
