On November 14,1947 Naomi Hughes was born to the parents of Robert Sr. and Neola Griffin in Murphysboro, Illinois. She received her primary education through the Murphysboro Community Unit School District in Murphysboro, Illinois. Naomi had a loving spirit. She loved music, especially the “Blues.” Naomi loved being around family and friends and felt that nothing could stop her from enjoying herself and having a good time.
Naomi came to Flint, Michigan in 1967 to marry her high school sweetheart, Clarence Hughes. She started off as a housewife but later went on to obtain her Nursing degree from Mott Community College. After graduation, Naomi worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Flint Osteopathic Hospital and later finished her career at Hurley Medical Center where she retired in 2009 after 30 years of service.
Naomi went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Naomi Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hughes, her parents, Robert Sr., and Neola Griffin, 2 sisters, Virginia Griffin and Ruby Lee Dooley, 4 brothers, Tobias (Toby), Robert Jr. (Bobby), and Benjamin (Jimmy) Griffin.
Naomi leaves to cherish her fond memories: 2 daughters, Gwendolyn (Andre) Washington of Flushing, Michigan, and Kamika Hughes of Sacramento, CA., 4 grandchildren, Marquese Hughes, Kierra Washington, and Drue Washington all from Flint, MI., and Andre Washington Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri, 1 sister, Ruth Bankhead, 3 sisters in law, Margaret Griffin both of Springfield, Illinois, Ruby and Christine Gillespie of Euless, Texas. A host of nieces, nephews other family and friends including special friend, Melba Young.
The family of Mrs. Naomi Hughes would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks for the expressions of love and concern extended to them during this time of bereavement and special thanks to Hurley Medical Center ICU/CCU Team, Fostorian Skilled Nursing Center and McLaren-Flint Select Specialty Care Unit. |
