Town, Vera Ellen (Hendershott), 94, passed away on May 2, 2025. Vera was born on August 31, 1930, to Casper and Emma (Roth) Hendershott. Vera was the second of five children. She married Leland (Dit) on September 4, 1948, at Calvary Lutheran Church. They raised 4 children in Flint, then moved to Venice Township in 1985.
Vera belonged to an antiques club, was an herbalist, a handwriting analyst as well as an avid quilter and was often sought out to lecture on these topics. She was on the committee that established Crossroads Village and was the first official passenger on the Huckleberry Railroad Train. Vera was a self-taught carpenter and furniture maker; she built an addition on her house and the gazebo in which her daughter was married.
Vera was tough but kindhearted. She welcomed everyone with open arms and had a laugh that could be heard a mile away. She had style and class and could accessorize any outfit with her array of hats, shoes and jewelry. Vera loved her family and spending time with her friends and loved ones.
Vera is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Marylyn, son Leonard, sister Joyce and brothers Dale, George and Ray. She is survived by her son, Richard, daughter Ruth (Ebmeyer), grandchildren, Andrew (Michelle) Lamke, Catherine (Jeffery) Wampler, LeAnn (Nate) Emmons, Elizabeth (Christopher) Herrmann, Nathan Town, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 17 at United In Christ Lutheran Church, 6330 Corunna Rd, in Flint, MI with Pastor Stephen Stahlhut officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m.
