Age: 63
Community: Gathering held at Bella Birches of Flushing, MI

Terry Lee Jones, MSA, CPP, PSI, PSP, CHPA, age 63, of Swartz Creek passed away at his residence on January 16, 2025, concluding his courageous nearly 2-year battle with ALS. This marks a time for celebration as he is free of the bonds of ALS.

Terry was born February 18, 1961, at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint, Michigan to parents James Fredrick Jones and Reba Montgomery Jones.

Following thirteen years of courtship, Terry Lee Jones and Debra Lynn Dennis, who met while employed at Hurley Medical Center, were married on August 29, 2008, in Toledo, Ohio.

Terry’s dynamic personality was characterized by his perpetual motion and willingness to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbors. In the summer months he enjoyed golfing with friends and colleagues, prioritizing enjoyment over expertise. Terry’s love for music was evident in his appreciation for classic artists such as Johnny Cash and especially Jimi Hendrix. As a passionate hockey enthusiast, he participated in an adult hockey league for several years, sustaining injuries including a broken ankle and a broken clavicle. Terry enjoyed exploring antique shops with his wife Debi, seeking unique items to enhance their Victorian home. At home, Terry meticulously maintained his 10-acre property, working in his pole barn and walking his dog, Holly, through the wooded trails he developed. Savoring a craft beer and enjoying a fine cigar on his deck, he took pleasure in watching the diverse wildlife including rabbits, fox, coyotes, deer, ducks, heron and mink in and around the pond.

Terry was a nationally renowned figure in Healthcare Security. He possessed a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Mercy University, as well as CPP, PCI and PSP credentials from the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) and served as Chapter Chair of Flint ASIS. Additionally, Terry held CHSP and CHEP credentials from the International Board for Certification Services and Managements (IBFCSM) and a CHPA credential from the International Association for Healthcare and Safety (IAHSS) where Terry served two terms as Great Lakes Chapter President and was a member at large on the credentialing committee.

Terry’s entry into the security sector occurred in the early 1980’s in Teachout Security with Bernie Teachout providing guidance. As the soul staff member, Terry’s duties encompassed a range of responsibilities including guard work, phone duties and administrative tasks. By the mid 1980’s, Terry transitioned to a security position at Hurley Medical Center. He founded the Public Safety Profession’s Union becoming the Union President. Terry departed from Hurley Medical Center as a Security Supervisor to rejoin Teachout Security Solutions in the early 2000’s to spearhead the development of their healthcare security division. Terry retired from Teachout Security Solutions as Vice President in August 2023 due to health issues.

Terry is survived by his loving wife Debi; his three children, Lindsey Jones, Allison Jones and Jeffery Jones; Grandsons Landyn and Jaidyn; his mother Reba Jones; siblings Sherion (Gary) Price, Ronald Jones and Linda Wolford; Stepdaughter Christy (Charles) Kincer; and Sister-in-law Sue O’Guin. Terry is further survived by many dear nieces, nephews and other dear family members and friends too numerous to list but never forgotten. Terry is also survived by his dog Holly and cats O.C. and Mouse.

Terry was preceded in death by his father James Fredrick Jones, sister Vicky Green and brother-in-law Kimberly O’Guin.

The family of Terry wishes to convey their profound gratitude to Joe Cozart, President and CEO of Teachout Security Solutions, and his wife, Kim, for their exceptional and outstanding support during Terry’s illness. Their generosity has been truly remarkable, and words are insufficient to convey the family’s deepest appreciation. Terry enjoyed the monthly office luncheons and discussion hosted by Joe and the management team including Bart Bennett, Derek Loomis, David Blank, Randy Swain, Mike Morgan, Tammy Gauthier and the rest of the Teachout staff. Thank you all for continuing to make Terry feel like a valued, important and respected member of the Teachout Security Solutions Team.

The Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 2:00pm-5:00pm at Bella Birches, 606 N McKinley Rd, Flushing, MI 48433. Eulogy will be delivered by Joe Cozart.
