UNGER, Pastor Karl E. – went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Born in Gera, Germany on May 10, 1922, son of the late Richard and Ida (Lippold) Unger, as the youngest of six children. His family came to America in 1924 and settled in Pittsburgh, PA. After high school, sensing the call of God on his life for the ministry, he graduated from Gordon College in Boston, MA. He then graduated from the Seminary School at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Pastor Unger served as minister in Baptist Churches in New England, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan for over 60 years. He founded and was Pastor Emeritus of Judson Baptist Church in Burton. He married Thelma Kirby in 1973 and they remained servants of the Lord through Clare Assembly of God in Clare, MI until her passing in 2010.
Karl leaves three children from his first marriage, Carol Cleveland of West Palm Beach, FL, Shirley (friend, Bob Bauer) Hess of Roscommon and David (Theresa) Unger of Davison; six grandchildren, Kelly Vaughn, Amy (Coy) Vaughn, Andrew (Kathy) Cleveland, Jennifer Evans, Alicia (Andy) Hensley, Ken (Ami) Unger; 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Elizabeth Hess.
A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Friday, August 22, 2014 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Emeritus F. Joseph Atkinson officiating. Burial will be 2 PM Saturday at Freeman Township Cemetery in Lake, MI. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Medical Team Hospice for all their care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, Elim Fellowship or Medical Team Hospice.
