Joel Hagerman Moore, 72, of Flushing, died on October 14, 2021 at Hyde Park Assisted Living. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Rossell Funeral Home. Rev. JJ Mannschreck will officiate. Burial will be in Flint’s Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Funeral Home until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
Joel was born May 4, 1949 in Ann Arbor, the middle child of Dr. Glenn E. Moore, Jr. and Kathryn Ann (Pierce) Moore. His family moved to Flint in 1950 when his father became a surgical resident at Hurley Hospital.
He was a proud member of the Flint Southwestern High School Class of 1968, later joining classmates to plan reunions. He worked at several jobs, the last being a position with Landaal Packaging Systems.
Music was a lifelong interest, including concerts at Whiting Auditorium. A longtime devoted fan of Neil Diamond, he reveled in attending several live performances. His badminton hobby also flourished during those years. Travel in Michigan was highlighted by the Moore cousins’ reunions on Mackinac Island. Among other destinations, he traveled to the Outer Banks, the Boundary Waters, France, and down the Amazon River.
In later years he enjoyed camaraderie and activities at the Flushing Senior Center. An avid reader, history was a favorite subject. His loyalty to the Tigers, Lions and Michigan State never wavered.
Joel’s special passion was his family. He treasured his parents, his siblings and their families, and extended family members. They enriched his life in countless ways, including spirited card and table games. Joel was an amazing individual who made an impression on everyone he touched. He will be missed.
Survivors include his niece Kathryn Moore (Tim) MacDonald and their children Lauren and Trey; nephews Jefferson Moore and Brian Allen (Janna); and brother-in-law Peter Allen. He is also survived by cousins Patricia Costello Hand, Emily Spiteri Fullerton, Eric Fitzgerald, and Adam Fitzgerald.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Davis Pierce Moore; sister Julia Moore Allen; nephew Scott Allen; sister-in-law Jodi Moore; cousin Frank Fitzgerald; grandparents Lola and E. Davis Pierce, Evelyn and Glenn E Moore, Sr; aunts and uncles Sarah Jane (Pierce) and Francis Costello, Hattie Marie (Moore) and Joseph Spiteri, and Lorabeth (Moore) and John Fitzgerald. |
