MARION LOUISE ARMSTRONG, age 83, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from her home in Flushing, MI, surrounded by family. Her funeral service will be held at 11AM on Monday, April 11, 2022, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 500 North St., Otisville, MI 48463. Burial will follow in Watertown Twp. Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Mumford-Hudson Funeral Home on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 5PM to 7PM and Monday, April 11, 2022 from 10AM until the time of her service at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideon International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214. Marion was born, October 3, 1938, in South Lyon MI, the third child of Milford Bannerman and Odith Fosgate. She was valedictorian of her graduating class at Milford High School and graduated as Valedictorian Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts from Franklin College and began her teaching career in the fall of 1960 at a small, two-room building in Goodrich. Years later she returned to college, attending the University of Michigan- Flint, to get her teaching certificate. She taught both full-time and as a substitute teacher for many years in several districts, spending her final years in early elementary education at North Branch Wesleyan Academy. On November 28, 1959, Marion married James Edward Armstrong in Davison, where the two raised four daughters, all graduates of LakeVille High School. In the early 1990’s, they moved to Millington, where Marion became active in the Genesee County Herb Society and Millington Quilt Club, spending many enjoyable hours gardening and making quilts. She has been an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Otisville for over 50 years and following the death of her husband, attended Trinity Baptist Church of Flushing, where she had been residing since 2016. She is survived by her daughters: Richele Schaffer, Rebecca (Andrew) Putvin, Renee (Ben) Hames, and Jaymie (Randy) Marshall; 10 grandchildren: Haddas (Jason) Brower, Drew Putvin, Michal Marshall, Trevor (Micaila) Marshall, Lidia Schaffer, Malachi (Elizabeth) Marshall, Ali Schaffer, Ellie (Jacob) Cross, Kelvin Hames, and Sam Marshall; and 5 great grandsons: Levi, Logan, Micah, Thaddeus, and Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Lawrence Bannerman; sisters: Carol Allie and Sharon Sutton; and son-in-law, Richard Schaffer. |
