George was born in West Branch, MI on November 10, 1961, son of George Sr. and Judy (Wersel) Briggs. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1980-1992, a veteran of Desert Shield and Desert Storm. On July 27, 1981, he married Catherine Becker in Davison. George worked at Rock Bottom Stone Supply, but also worked as an excellent mechanic all of his life. He loved to “tinker” in his garage. It was a well known fact that, “If George couldn’t fix it, nobody could.” He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and then he attended Heritage United Church of Christ. George very much loved his church family and took great joy in serving the Lord. Spending time on his pontoon, fishing, camping and grilling were other hobbies he enjoyed. George’s greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren to whom he was lovingly called “Papa”.

George is survived by his wife, Catherine Briggs; two children, Joshua (Karisa) Briggs; Amanda (Blake) Kelley; five grandchildren, Noah, Troy, Brenden, Abigail, Adilynn; three siblings, Gerald Briggs, Brenda (Chris) Smith and AJ (Stacey) Briggs; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann (Kent) Oaks, Arline (Bill) Bowman, Kris (Bob) Brouillard, Pat (Shawn) Becker as well as many other loving family members and good friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Virginia Becker and father-in-law, Joseph Becker.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Elara Hospice, especially Kelly for their compassionate care given to George.
