Michael was a teacher and coach for Flint Beecher High School, LakeVille Memorial High School and Kingston High School. While he was the head football coach at Flint Beecher High School, they competed in the famous “51-50” game between Grand Blanc High School and Flint Beecher High School in 1979. In this game, many historic Genesee County athletes competed such as Carl Banks (New York Giants), Lonnie Young (New York Jets), Thad McFadden (Wisconsin Badgers), Steve Smith (University of Michigan QB) among others. This game went down as the most memorable football game in Genesee County history. During his coaching career he also formed many lasting relationships with other coaches and families that have shaped his life. Most importantly, that of the late Dr. Jerry Laycock, a beloved friend, mentor, and father figure. They went on to coach together for many years at Kingston High School. In addition to coaching football, he also coached girls and boys track & field for Kingston High School. After retirement, he went on to become a well-respected and established umpire for girls softball throughout the Greater Genesee County area.

Mr. Alexander “Coach” was a dedicated teacher for 34 years. He was known to be a mentor and father-like figure to his students, athletes and all those whose lives he touched. Specifically influencing in the areas of health & fitness, life skills, leadership, and loving others.

Michael was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing and all things outdoors with his friends and children. He loved classic western movies, especially any starring John Wayne or Clint Eastwood. Later in life, he acquired a new hobby of riding horses and watching rodeo.

Michael loved the Village of Otisville and was dedicated to upholding its history, as well as the beauty of the Village of Otisville, Forrest and Metamora Township. He is currently registered as the longest tenured resident in the Village of Otisville.

Michael is survived by his loving children, Nikki (Pelham Chastang) Alexander Chastang and David (Amanda Sleider) Alexander; sister, Alena (Chris) Papadakis; niece, Angelic “Angie” Papadakis; late brother, Richard Smith and his children, Lori (Cleto) Escobedo, Rick Smith, Lisa Speiser, Steven Smith, Tim Cheatham; and many other loving family members and friends.
