Farney, Ellen Jean of Flushing, age 96, died Monday, February 27, 2023, at her home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at Rossell Funeral Home. Deacon Dennis Pennell will officiate. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home until the time of the service at 11 a.m.
Ellen was born in Flint, Michigan on October 23, 1926, the daughter of Howard and Furma (Hartshorn) DuPraw. She married Thomas Farney on December 4, 1946, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. After 68 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on March 14, 2015. In her younger years, Ellen enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader. She was an avid seamstress, making wedding dresses for family members, baptismal gowns, fancy dresses for her granddaughters, and even Barbie clothes. She also enjoyed needlepoint and painting. Ellen was a wonderful cook. She was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church. Ellen was a devoted wife and loving matriarch of her family.
Ellen is survived by her children, Sally Lett, Dennis and wife Rosie Farney, Polly and husband Dan Lunt, John Farney; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Farney; son-in-law, Terry Brokaw; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Farney; son, Thomas Farney II; daughter, Susan Brokaw; two grandchildren, Ellen Marie Farney, Jamie Lee Brokaw; son-in-law, Lew Lett; three sisters, Floy Monroe, Valerie Willams, twin sister, Helen Ehrmantraut; and brother, Howard “Bud” DuPraw.
