ASCENCIO, Jesse – of Burton, MI, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023. Cremation has taken place. A Graveside Service will be held at 1 PM Monday, January 8, 2024 at Great Lakes National Cemetery; Pastor Gene Byers officiating.
Jesse was born in Flint, MI on June 1, 1944, son of the late Jesse and Marion (Limon) Ascencio. He married Janie Monreal on January 14, 1966, in Davison, MI. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2018. Jesse was a retiree of the City of Flint, working at Whaley Park, where he could usually be found. Jesse was the founder of Cerca Boxing. He became an Olympic boxing coach which led him to travel around the world. After he retired, he enjoyed his time with family and grandchildren. Jesse was a legend in his community. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
Jesse is survived by children, Anthony (Shannon) Ascencio, Lynn (Patrick) Huntley and Lydia (Salvatore) Zuccaro; grandchildren, Jesse (Samantha) Ascencio, Asa (Mildred) Zuccaro, Mercedes (Nicholas) Cunningham, Alexis Porritt, Aristotle and Sahara Ascencio; great-grandchild, Nora Lynn Ascencio and Blair Ascencio; many other loving family members and friends.
