Geraldine Ann (Davidek) Benedict, born August 16, 1934, died in the loving presence of her family on December 15, 2024. Geraldine ("Gerry") was born on August 16, 1934, in Flint, Michigan, to Stefan & Anna (Prohaska) Davidek. Geraldine spent her early years in Flint and attended Northern High School. Here, she met Robert Benedict, and the couple were married on June 22, 1957, in Flint. They initially resided in Flint but eventually built a home in Flushing, where Geraldine spent the remainder of her life. Geraldine & Robert ("Bob") were the parents of 6 children: Susan, Michael, Scott, Matthew, Christopher & Patrick.
Geraldine graduated high school and began working at an early age. Her first job was at the Buttercup Bakery in downtown Flint, where her unique aptitude for numbers and accounting became evident. Despite having no formal training, she functioned for decades as an administrator & accountant for several businesses in Flint, including The Central Wholesale Company and The Genesee County Employee's Credit Union.
Geraldine was a loving and dedicated wife and mother to her 6 children. She uncompromisingly supported them in all their endeavors, including academics, sports, music, art, and the like. She was also a wonderful daughter, aunt, grandmother, and friend to all who were fortunate to be blessed by her presence. Gerry loved keeping a warm, welcoming & loving home, and enjoyed gardening, walking outdoors, visiting with loved ones, and traveling, especially to warm and sunny places. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apples of her eye.
Throughout her life, Geraldine was deeply devout in her Catholic faith. She attended St. Robert Church in Flushing and was active in both worship & church support roles. One of Geraldine's great joys in life was her selfless participation in the St. Robert worship choir, which was blessed by her participation and presence for decades. Gerry made many lifelong friendships there while serving her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. She will be sorely missed as the choir sings on....with one less voice.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Benedict; her children, Scott & Christopher Benedict; her brothers, Stefan, Edward & Robert Davidek; and her parents, Anna & Stefan Davidek. Surviving & mourning their loss are her children Susan Garrity of Poughkeepsie, New York, Michael (Pamela) Benedict of Flint, Matthew (Jeanine Petit) Benedict of Flint, Patrick (Mary) Benedict of Brighton, grandchildren Abigail (Zach) Witter, Anna Garrity, Olivia (Shira Adam) Garrity, Ian Garrity, Randi & Luke McMunigal, Adrian Benedict & Cory Glover, Camden Benedict, Luke Benedict, Mandi (Seth Meyer) Benedict and Matthew Benedict; great-grandchildren Coralie, Leila, Kennedy, Avery, Ramona & Reid, innumerable additional friends and relatives, and her decades-long faithful & loving companion, Robert Hoffman.
To honor Gerry's incredible life, we invite you to turn on some polka music and raise a glass of Killian's Irish Red — preferably from a warm glass with a bowl of piggie-puffs, just the way she liked it. Please join us in celebrating her legacy with the same joy and spirit she brought us all.
