Francis Walter Stevens of Montrose, age 76, passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. No services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Francis was born March 29, 1946, in Montrose, Michigan to the late Walter Cross and Frances Stevens. He attended Clio High School. Francis married Julie May Bancroft on March 20, 1964. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, fishing, hunting, auto racing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He worked for the City of Flushing DPW for 32 ½ years. He was a member of the Montrose Eagles for many years.
Surviving are wife of 58 years, Julia May Stevens; Children: Francis (Annette) Stevens Jr., Francine Stevens, and Donald Stevens; Grandchildren: Justin Stevens, Brandi Taylor, Josh Stevens, Steven Miller, Daniel Schwab, Melinda Stevens, Ronnie Stevens, Alicia Hartley, Samantha Burgess, Jessica Stevens, Donald Stevens II, Kelli-Jo Botts, Dylan Stevens, and Matthew Goza; 34 great grandchildren; Special Fur Babies: Dogs, Onyx and Cristy and Cat, Precious; SiblingsL Bob and wife, Alice Cross, Allan and wife, Deloris Cross, Vick Cross, James and wife, Betty Thomas, Jerry and wife, Jackie Meyers, and Geraldine Snyder; Racing friends: Jay Woolworth, Dusty Clemons, Dale Hennessy, Al Boitel; Several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish in memory are his mother and father. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Stevens and father, Walter Cross; Father-in-law, Lavern Bancroft and mother-in-law, Clara Belle Bancroft; Grandson, Francis Stevens III; Granddaughter, Brianna Stevens; Bill Stevens, Charles Stevens, Anson Beardsley, Tom Stevens, Earl Stevens, Marion Bronson, and Lola White.
Very special thank you to Dr. Jon L. Schriner and Flushing DaVita for their long-term care. Also special thanks to Hurley Hospital and Bristol Hospice from Frank and family. Frank was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by many!
