Melvin R Hollingshead, age 82 of Columbiaville, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital, Grand Blanc. Following his wishes he has donated any of his useable organs and was cremated. In lieu of flowers or contributions we ask that you plant a tree in his honor.
Mel was born and raised in Grand Blanc, Michigan to the late Ernest Ralph and Martha Norma(Metcalf) Hollingshead. Mel and his late wife Janet (Monty) lived their lives out in Columbiaville, Michigan raising two daughters, Disarae Wright (Jeff) and Katrina (Joel) Satkowiak. Mel was the youngest of three, Joanne, Patricia (Al) Cater.
Mel started his adventures in 1959 as the President of the FFA Association, he entered the US Marine Corp in August of 1959 and was Honorable discharged in August of 1963. He retired from General Motors after 45 years. He was also a License Building Contractor. Mel and his father over the years had built many homes in Grand Blanc and Columbiaville areas. Grand Blanc even has a street named after him and his sister. One of his greatest works was converting the old Methodist Church on Washburn and Dodge Rd into a home that he raised his family in. Mel enjoyed working outdoors, tinkering in his many shops and his big passion of farming as he loved his Texas Long Horns. Friends were always welcome to come in and have a cocktail.
Mel is survived by his daughters, Disarae (Jeff) and Katrina (Joel); grandchildren, Holly Wright, Nicholas (Lindsey) Tarrant and Matt Tarrant; great-grandchildren, Brody, Dakoda, Trace and Leilani; sister, Patricia (Al) Carter; Nephews, Mike (Mary) Pastukov and Scott (Tina) Shepard, many Great Nieces and Nephews and his beloved dog “Sophie”. Special friends; Ted and Ralpha, Brad and DeEtta, Bruno and Debbie, Kathy and Joe and Greg. He is proceeded in death by his sister Joanne, his parents Ralph and Norma, great Nephew Gabe, wife Janet, 2nd wife Roberta and son-in-law Joel. Mel will be truly missed by many.
