CHULEAS, Athena P. – Of Flint, age 93, died Friday, October 30, 2020 at her home, in Flint.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, November 6, 2020 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 2245 East Baldwin Road, Grand Blanc.
Father Angelo Maggos and Father Jarrod Russell officiating.
Visitation 5-8pm Wednesday and 12-3pm and 5-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Trisagion Service will be held 7pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Building Fund.
Athena was born in McKeesport, PA on November 19, 1926, the daughter of Peter and Anna Vasilas. On August 20, 1950, Athena married Constantine “Gus” Chuleas in McKeesport, PA. Athena was a longtime member of both Greek Women’s Organizations, the Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos Society. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years, leaving a lasting impression on many of her former students. Athena was a devoted wife, mother, and Yia Yia to her loving family. She was well known for her delicious “Keftedes” meatballs, her “Kourambiedes” and “Koulourakia” cookies. Athena was known as the life of the party, a connoisseur of red wines, and a guiding matriarch of her extended family. She will be sadly missed by son Bill and wife Shelly, grandson Carlin. Daughter Phyllis, husband Mace, and granddaughter Alice. Sister in law Alice Vasilas and nephew Peter, sister in law Maria Chuleas and niece Leslie, many other loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gus, brother Theodore, sister in laws, Anna, Thelma, Mabel, Sophie, Diane, Helen, Mary, Brother in laws, George, Fred, Nick, Bernie, Kenny, Ralph, Peter, Charlie. Special thanks to Carol and Ray for hosting her for many family dinners over the years, and for all the special gifts and treats Carol lovingly made. Special thanks to Georgie Allard for her many trips with Greek goodies and keeping Athena up to date with news from church.
