Richard D. Keeney Sr., age 78, from Flint, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2021 after coming home with the help of McLaren Hospice Team.

Richard was born on October 14, 1942, in Standish, Michigan to Clare and Gertrude (Daniels) Keeney, the middle child of nine siblings. He was a proud military Vietnam veteran and Sharpshooter. He served two tours in the Army Infantry as a Paratrooper making 365 jumps. Richard fought on the front lines from 1960-66, where he met his first wife with whom he had two children.

Richard went on to work as a car hauler and loading railroad cars for Complete Auto Transit for 29 years as a member of the Teamsters Local 332. He married the love of his life Lorielynn Ponder on July 28, 1979, at Kearsley Park in Flint. They raised their five children together in Burton, Michigan. Richard loved to ride his motorcycle and was a Road Captain for the Flint H.O.G. and belonged to the American Independent Motorcycle (AIM) riding group. He loved to go out dancing and was on bowling leagues with friends. He taught all of his kids how to drive, and you weren’t allowed to start the car until you could change a tire. Richard loved to go deer hunting with his brothers and carry his gun with his C.C.W. permit.

He was a lifetime member of Burton VFW 2777, Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed going to his cabin in St. Helen, Michigan where he spent most of his retired years living with dementia.

Richard is survived by his wife Lorie; his little dog, Precious; five children: Kelly Keeney, Richard Jr. (Regina) Keeney, Jeriel (Sarah) Keeney, Jeniel (Michael Jr.) Payne, Richiel (Brandon) Keeney Edwards; 15 grandchildren: Jennifer Keeney, Justin (Angel) Bernard, Naomi (Trevor) Callahan, Shane (Brianna) Keeney, Dakota (Cassie) Payne, Max (Madison) Keeney, Jayden, Jordyn, Ava, Josiah Keeney, Brandon, Makenna, Peyton, Trenton and Journee Edwards; 13 great-grandchildren: Alina and Kameron Keeney, Breonna, Lamar, Aaliyah, Justin Jr., and Sheylah Bernard, Teagan Callahan, Maverick Keeney, Baby Girl Keeney, Corvina Keeney, Taylor and Silas Payne; his long time friend, Jerry Kingsbury; and special friend, Dylan Payne. Also surviving are his two brothers, Arthur Keeney and Robert Keeney; and his sister, Linda Klimek. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Merle Keeney, Sandra Smith, Ruth Jane Cunningham, Janet Stevens, Mary Ann Richards, and Jo Ann Keeney.

For those that would like to come and pay their respects, visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 E. Hill Rd. Grand Blanc, Michigan. A service will be at held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, at the above location. Mike Brown officiating. Casual dress is more than welcome. COVID restrictions with gathering limitations will apply.

Following the service, Richard will be laid to rest with a motorcycle hearse parade followed by full military honors at Crestwood Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the McLaren Hospice team, Brown Funeral Home, and his V.A. nurse, John Thompson, for the respectful treatment he was given.
