BARCEY, Arbutus Onalee of Burton, Age 101, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 at the Cottage of Davison. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Atherton United Methodist Church, 4010 Lippincott in Burton, MI. Pastor Sang Y. Chun officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Center Road, Grand Blanc.
Arbutus was born in Coleman, Michigan, daughter of Floyd and Beuhla Preston. She then moved to Davison and graduated from Davison High School in 1939.
She married Ernest Joseph Barcey on March 22, 1941. They were happily married until his death in 2000.
She was a homemaker and volunteer at St. Joseph hospital for many years, then worked at Genova Products for 10 years. She was very active in her church and an avid volunteer at the Flint Soup Kitchen. She and Ernest enjoyed their Jim Beam Decanter Bottle collection and traveled the country for many years of Jim Beam conventions.
Arbutus attributes her longevity to healthy eating, vitamins and a lot of reading and walking. She very much enjoyed attending all of her grandson’s sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Beuhla, husband Ernest, infant brother Marnell, sisters Geraldine Link (Harold) and Eleanor Boyce (Frank).
She leaves to cherish her memory: 2 Sons: Gerald Barcey (Diane) of Grand Blanc, MI, Garth Barcey (Jill) of Clio, MI, 5 Grandsons: Scott Barcey (Carla) of Suttons Bay, MI, Brian Barcey of Cadillac, MI, Todd Barcey (Tracy) of Grand Blanc, MI, Brent Barcey (Bethany) of San Antonio, TX, Justin Barcey (Renia) of Grand Blanc, MI, and 1 Granddaughter, Jennifer Barcey of Boca Raton, FL. She is also survived by 20 Great-Grandchildren and 8 (soon to be 9) Great- Great-Grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Todd and Tracy Barcey, Kathy Boyce, Trevor of the Hospice Care Team, Sue Walsh, and the Cottage of Davison (especially Melissa) for the excellent care and compassion they showed Arbutus these past few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atherton United Methodist Church or to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
