Albert Max Melwing, 64 of Lapeer, died Sunday, November 7, 2021.
Al was born February 13, 1957 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to Stuart and Elaine (Olivier) Melwing. He graduated from Chesaning High School, class of 1975. Al went on to serve his country proudly in the US Navy. During his time in the Navy Al earned certification as a journeyman electrician. Upon his discharge, Al went to work for Kettering University in Flint, retiring in 2019 after a 27 year career. In his spare time Al loved fishing, boating and making other people smile. He was truly a “jack of all trades” as he could fix or build almost anything.
Al is survived by his wife, Kimberly (nee, Tahtinen) Melwing; children: Alex Melwing of Swartz Creek, Holly (Brian) Fiorello of Bethlehem, PA, Tony Ritchie of Otisville and Nick (fiancé, Jessica Gavord) Ritchie of Hemlock; three grandchildren Olivia Jane, Olivia Rose and Charlotte; siblings: Jim (Marcia) Melwing of Kentucky, Dawn (Tim) Kehoe of Mt. Clemens, Eve Oneal of Alabama and Kurt (Amy) Melwing of Chesaning. Al is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM Friday, November 12, 2021 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Al’s family will receive friends from 10-11AM the morning of the service. Military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post #16 Honor Guard will immediately follow the memorial service.
