Jacqueline Mae Coon

Loving mother, devoted wife, and cherished grandmother, Jacqueline Mae Coon of Owosso, Michigan, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 in Alma, Michigan, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Nelson-House Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Swem officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family invites friends to gather at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Jacqueline was born on September 20, 1936, in Owosso, Michigan, to Archie and Helen (Azelton) Phillips. She graduated from Owosso High School in the class of 1956.

Jacqueline had an adventurous spirit-she was never lost, just on her next great adventure. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she fiercely advocated for her children and grandchildren, who were the true lights of her life. A woman of many passions, Jacqueline found joy in traveling the highways and backroads of Michigan with her husband, Ward, at the wheel. Jacqueline was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, she was a strong supporter and always had her house filled with girl scout cookie boxes. She enjoyed crocheting, listening to her favorite music artists, including Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles. And she relished the moments spent dancing, taking trips to Mackinac Island during lilac season, and enjoying peaceful days fishing on the Shiawassee River (her preferred bait was canned corn).

Jacqueline married her beloved husband, Ward H. Coon, on June 18, 1955, in Owosso, Michigan. They shared 69 wonderful years together before Ward predeceased her on October 11, 2024.

Throughout her life, Jacqueline was known for her warm smile and kind heart. She worked as a sales clerk in various stores throughout the Owosso area and served the children of Bryant Elementary School as a crossing guard on the corner of Stewart and Cedar Street for many years.

Jacqueline is survived by her four children, Jeffrey (Rosie) Coon, Russell (Sheryl) Coon, Becky (Robert) Holdridge, and Peggy (Carl) Stevens; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters, along with many other loving family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ward H. Coon, her parents, Archie and Helen Phillips, brother, Bill Phillips.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Michigan Masonic Pathways Residential Living and the Jack F. Sanders Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Alma for their exceptional care and support of Jacqueline.

In honor of Jacqueline’s memory, the family suggests memorial contributions to Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation in Alma Michigan.
