Vowinkle, Donald Duane of Flushing, age 66, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, at his home. A gathering of family and friends will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Rossell Funeral Home. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House.
Donald was born in Flint, Michigan on July 28, 1956, the son of John and Dorothy (Brown) Vohwinkle. Don graduated from Hamady High School, Class of 1974. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Don married Judy Rider on September 20, 1986. She preceded him in death on September 4, 2022. Don worked at Gina’s Restaurant and took over as owner in the mid 1970’s and throughout his career was a mentor to many. He was an avid Michigan sports fan, especially U of M-Wolverines. Don loved gambling, Nascar, playing guitar and his Canadian fishing trips. When he wasn’t at the restaurant, Don enjoyed grilling and barbequing and spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his son, Daniel Vowinkle; grandchildren, Trenton, and Brianna; great-grandson, Eric Joshua; siblings, Lunda Jefferies, John (Janet) Vohwinkle, Bob (Angie) Vohwinkle, Ronald (Tracy) Vohwinkle, Sandy (Brad) Cook; many sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews; friends; and his Gina’s family and customers. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Joshua Vohwinkle; brother, Randy Vohwinkle; and his parents.
