COX, Franklin Delano Sr. (Frank) - Of Swartz Creek, age 85, died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Frank was born in Flint, Michigan the son of the late Allen and Hazel (Monroe) Cox. He graduated from Flint Central High School, Class of 1952. He attended Flint Community College, Mott Community College and the GM apprenticeship program and GMI. Frank married Janet Gifford on March 5, 1955 in Swartz Creek and celebrated 64 years of marriage this past year. Together they have 4 children, Darla (Steve) Austin, Frank (Maria) Cox, Cindy (Tim) Miller, and John Cox. They have 5 grandchildren, Lauren Bowen, Lindsay Hill, Stephen Austin, Sarah (Ricardo) Cox-Vazquez, Franklin Cox and great-grandson, Christian Bowen.

Frank worked for Buick, Chevrolet, and Oldsmobile as a process engineer, retiring in 1987. He continued working for Autodie in Grand Rapids as a contract engineer for GM until his retirement in 1998. Frank traveled many miles over the years to different states while working for GM and he also knew every back road that lead to Detroit so he wouldn’t get stuck in traffic somewhere. Frank was a Mason and Shriner for over 60 years. He was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he performed many acts of service including Sunday School Teacher, Lay Leader, Usher, Men’s group, and “church photographer”.

Frank enjoyed building and had every tool and then some so he could loan them out to people when they needed one. He could fix anything and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Tigers, and took up the hobby of making wooden bowls and giving them away to loved ones and people he just met.
Frank loved being with his family, extended family and church family. Frank’s children and grandchildren kept him busy over the years following them around to all of their activities and traveling to see them. He loved having people come visit him. He hosted many family reunions at his home over the years and enjoyed the time they spent together. He also hosted many Bible studies at his home and enjoyed being involved in his church to help others in need.

Surviving are his brothers, Goodman Cox, Don Cox; sisters, Bertie Brant, Louetta Sawyer; brother-in-law, Larry Gifford; Ken Brant; sister-in-law, Judy Cox, Kim Cox; Ruth Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Special Mother, Thelma Cox; brothers, Allen Cox Jr., Altus Cox, Bud Cox; sisters, Virginia Lychner, Norma McGaffigan, Elizabeth Thompson, and Theresa Cox.

We are thankful for our loving Dad and Papa and his lifelong example of integrity, Love of God, dedication to his family and service to others.

Private services have been held and a memorial will be held at a later time. Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
