Eric Sidney Swanson of Fenton, formerly of Flushing, age 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Caterer Family Funeral Home in Flushing. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1-2 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.
Eric was born in Flint, Michigan on August 17, 1937, the son of Eric Gustaf and Edith Madline (Keyser) Swanson(Svensson). He married Carol Ann Donaski on July 23, 1960, at St. Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio.
Eric attended GMI and worked at AC Spark Plug as a Tool and Die Maker, retiring after 40 years in 1994. He was an active member of the Viking Lodge # 730, where he served as Chairman for 25 years and was also an Auditor for District #8. Eric raised German Shepherds for over 50 years and enjoyed showing them in dog shows all over the US & Canada. Since 1969, he was a member of the Genesee County Kennel Club. During the 1970’s, Eric became a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his family and friends around in his private plane, a Piper Tri-Pacer. He spent many summers with his family at Black Lake boating, fishing, golfing and making new friends starting when he was a young boy with his dad. As the original owner, he especially loved cruising in his 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible.
He was a man who never said no when asked to help, no matter what it was, and he always did it with a smile, a dad joke, and a hearty laugh.
Eric is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Ann; children, Jeff and wife Tammy Swanson, Jill and husband Steve Dean; grandchildren, Erika, Fraser, Logan and wife Heather, Giorgi; great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Camden; half-sisters, Diane and husband Al Matthewson, Denise Geddes; half-brother, Dale Geddes; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Sharon (Phil) Aldred; and dear friends, Carl Liepmann, Nancy and Pete Chargo, and Marge and Ree Brady. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ann Ervin, Karen Allis; and grandson, Tyler Swanson.
