Hardin, Anne Veronica passed away peacefully at her residents Charter Senior Living on January 21, 2022. She born in Detroit, MI on September 30, 1926, the second of four kids to the late Glenn O. and Angeline (Utych) Wood. Anna was joined in marriage to Norman H. Hardin September 28, 1946. She often spoke of her time growing up in Detroit. Her father being a conductor on the street cars of the day, her mother taking the kids to Belle Island for picnics, skipping school to see Tommy Dorsey and his “new” singer Frank Sinatra, working at Hudson’s, meeting friends under the Kerns Clock and celebrating VJ-day on Woodword Avenue. In 1945 with a single box of belongings Anna took a bus to Flint to get a job with General Motors only to find they were on strike. She found employment at a restaurant where she met the man who would become her husband. Eventually she started working ay A.C. Spark plug on Industrial Ave and she served some time as a union steward (UAW committee person) and was always proud member of UAW Local 651. Outside of work Anna spent her time raising 4 kids and after retirement she aways kept busy with many crafts sewing, needle point and cross stitching. She enjoyed traveling in her van and seeing many parts of the country while taking grandchildren along and enjoyed family get togethers. At 75 years of age, she taught line dancing and volunteered at local senior centers. Memory loss started to take its toll in the later years, but she still worked 1000-piece puzzles at the age of 93. Photos always meant so much to Anna and her walls were full of family history along with her many photo albums. She could still laugh and joke at the end. Anna’s journey from meager beginnings to where she arrived all happened because of her strong work ethics; strong will with determination and she was proud of that. She gave her kids loving support all through the years. Anna is survived by her children, Rhonda (Jack) Rau, Norman G. (Sharon) Hardin, Nancy Hardin and Philip Hardin; 8 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman H., siblings Glen E. Wood, Evelyn (Walt) Wanicki, Claire (Kenneth) Yaklin and daughter in-law Sharon Hardin. We would like to thank the many special staff members from Charter Senior Living of Davison for the care and compassion they showed our mom during the time spent there, also thank you to McLaren Hospice for the care they provided. Per Anna’s wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service to be announced at a later date. |
