Mr. Jethro Carter Sr. – Of Belleville, Michigan, formerly of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at his residence.

Family hour will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019, followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Johnnie Brown III officiating.

Burial will follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery with military honors

Jethro was born in Tunica, Mississippi, on March 8, 1931, the son of Lynn and Estella Carter.

Jethro graduated from Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, Mississippi in 1952, earning a bachelor of arts and sciences degree.

He served in the United States Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954. From 1954-1965 Jethro worked for General Motors Parts Division-Swartz Creek, MI.

In 1965, Jethro was promoted to Foreman-Material Handling, Otterburn (GM).

He became one of first blacks to be promoted to the position of Operations Supervisor Parts Division (GM) and in 1974 he was the first black to be assigned to Industrial Engineering as a Work Standards Engineer (GM). Mr. Carter was promoted to General Supervisor (GM) in 1978, retiring in 1987. Jethro led an exceptional life.

He was past member and trustee of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Flint.

He also enjoyed jazz and was an avid golfer.

Mr. Jethro Carter leaves to cherish his memories, daughter, Felicia F. Carter;

son, Jethro Jr. (Xantheia) Carter, both of Grand Blanc;

daughter, Terri (Bill) Anderson of Belleville, MI;

3 grandchildren, Christopher Carter of Royal Oak, MI,
Brittni Carter of McKinney, Texas and
Tre’ Anderson of Belleville, MI;
beloved cousins, Draper McFarlin and Joe Eddy and Rose Hawkins.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Estella Carter; brother, Willie Carter; brother, Lynn Carter Jr. and sister, Mildred Rencher.

The family would like to express special thanks to Jethro’s caregivers who delivered Loving care to Jethro for 3 years collectively, Asia Crooks, Debra Campbell and Crystal Smith.
