Yiannatji, Irene – Of Grand Blanc, age 96, died Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Silver Pines in Fenton, MI.
Funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 2245 East Baldwin Road, Grand Blanc, MI 48439, Father Nick Kotsis officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
Visitation 6-8pm Wednesday, June 22 with a Trisagion Service being held 7pm at Swartz Funeral Home.
Irene was born in Cyprus on December 15, 1925, the daughter of the late Photios and Eleni Photiou. She married Loucas Yiannatji, a decorated US World War II Veteran, at Virgin Mary of Harthgiotissa, Kythrea, Cyprus in February 1949 and came to the United States on May 23, 1949. They owned and operated the Empire Lounge in Flint, MI for many years. They were active members of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. They also belonged to Kiwanis, Optimist, and Lions Clubs. Irene was a very hard worker, loved everyone, enjoyed traveling, reading, and learning about new things.
Surviving are daughter, Eleni Yiannatji; son, Frank Yiannatji; grandchildren, Chrystal, Luca, and Luke; great-grandchildren, Yannaki, Serena, and Mia; Sister, Maroulla Makri; Sisters-in-law, Maroulla Photiou and Carol Photiou; several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Loucas; son, John; sister, Argyri Haralambous; and six brothers, John, Thomas, Andrew, Peter, Iakovos (James), and Glenn.
The family would like to give special thanks to those that provided loving care to Irene; Niece, Maro Neophytou and family.
