STRADER, John Louis – of Davison, MI, age 81, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023, at his home. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Nathan Allen officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Inurnment in Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 12-3 PM and 5-8 PM Friday, September 8, 2023, and the hour prior to the service on Saturday at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison Education Foundation, in John’s memory.
John Strader was born in Charleston, Illinois, on October 13, 1941, to his parents John William Strader and Antoinette Paula (Mizeur) Strader. He graduated from Garden City High School in the Class of 1959. After completing high school, John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1966.
On August 23, 1969, John married Marilyn Ann Smyser in Cassopolis, Michigan. He continued his education, earning a bachelor's degree from Olivet College and later obtaining a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University.
John worked for Davison Community Schools for 31 years and retired in 2001. He was actively involved in various organizations, including the Davison Optimist Club, Otisville F & AM Lodge #401, and Eastern Stars Nourmahal #282. John, for many summers, ran the Davison T-Ball program.
In his free time, John had a passion for fishing and was a dedicated fan of all the Detroit professional sports teams. He was particularly fond of the "Fighting Illini," showing his support for the University of Illinois athletics.
Above all, John cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren, highlighting the importance of family in his life. John is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ann Strader; 3 children, Curtis (Pam) Strader, Michael (Karen) Strader and Sara (Don) Harris; 9 grandchildren, Blake, Mitchel, Madison, Garrett, Kyle, Emma, Aidan, Noah, and Liam; 2 sisters, Suelette Brown and Luesta (Randy) Hotton; many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Antoinette Paula Strader.
