Golden Louise Hill of Caro, age 98, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023. Golden was born Golden Louise Witty on September 4, 1925, in Star, Texas, the daughter of the late James J. and Maud (Cathey) Witty. She grew up working on her family’s farm and graduated from Star High School in Texas. Golden later met Donald Hill in San Angelo, Texas, and they were united in marriage on January 15, 1951. The couple celebrated seventy-one years of marriage before Donald’s passing on February 19, 2022. For many years, Golden worked alongside her husband at Hill’s Grocery Store in Caro, and later served as treasurer for the Caro United Methodist church for over twenty years until her retirement. First and foremost, Golden cherished time spent with her family. She loved to sing and square dance, and was part of the Caro United Methodist Church choir and danced with the “Rocking Eights”. In addition to her
musical endeavors, she enjoyed spending time gardening, crocheting, and making handmade cards to celebrate her loved one’s birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Golden was also a member of the McLaren Caro Region Auxiliary.
Golden is survived by her three loving children, Patricia A. (Richard) Smith, Ricky A. (Teri) Hill, and Marsha A. (Michael) Kaplaniak; eight grandchildren, Jason Jakubos, Kevin Jakubos, Karen Gray, Ryne Jakubos, Nathaniel Hill, Nicole DeGain, Alana Ferguson, and Ashley Kaplaniak; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and special sister-in-law, Sharron (Mitch) McCreedy. In addition to her parents and husband, Golden was preceded in death by a son, Ira; four brothers,
James, Wesley, Melvin, and Norris Witty; and two sisters, Thelma Mae Clary and Velma Royce King.
In keeping with Golden’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Caro United Methodist Church in Caro with Rev. Robert Paul Demyanovich. The family will be present to receive
friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church or to Heritage Hill Assisted Living in Caro.
