Francis (Fran) was born in Flint, Michigan on August 31, 1929, the son of Frank and Catherine (Macura) Bubin. Fran was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. After beginning his work life at the Sears store in downtown Flint, most of his career was as a sales representative for Koerts Glass. After retirement he dabbled in commercial membership sales for Sams Club. He was a lifelong member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, In addition to enthusiastic practice of his faith, he also served as former President of the Men’s Club, managed the Friday Fish Fry’s, and participated in many other parish/family activities such as the Annual Bazaar, and the Corn Roast. It was during a wedding reception held at the St. Michael's activity center where some match-makers set up his introduction to Virginia Smyth. The two fans of Detroit Tiger baseball hit it off. He and 'Ginny' were married on September 6, 1986 - and recently celebrated 37 years together.

Fran enjoyed writing as a hobby, and he aspired that a draft of his novel may one day be ready for publication. He founded and led the writer’s group at the Flushing Senior Center, where he and Ginny were active members. They spent many years in Flushing and were happy to call the quaint town their home. Fran and Ginny also enjoyed traveling together, sometimes pulling their travel trailer to Florida, or the highlight trip of taking a family cruise with all of his siblings and their spouses. Fran was an experienced fisherman of Michigan lakes and streams, but it was mainly for casual recreation and relaxation. He was an avid bowler at one time, and a church bowling league included men and women singles or couples, providing fun, friendship and fellowship. But his greatest joy may have been spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

Francis is survived by his children, Patrick Bubin, Phillip (Cherrie) Bubin, Peggy (Bart) Jackson; his wife, Virginia, her children Denise (David) Meir, Douglas Dunning, and her former daughter-in-law Eileen Dunning-McGrath; former daughter-in-law, Kathleen Bubin; grandchildren, Anastasia, Miranda, Alex, Austin, Kayla, Kenzi; bonus grandchildren Joshua, Kellie, Shelly, Richard, Matthew; seven bonus great-grandchildren; and sister, Joan (Wayne) Hatch. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Bubin, and Virginia's son, Richard Dunning; mother of his children, Yvonne Bubin; and siblings, Thomas Bubin, Dorothy Russell, and Cathy Snyder.
