SERR, Vernon L. – of Clio, age 76, passed peacefully, Wednesday December 30, 2020 at Angel Manor in Clio. Family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Saturday January 9, 2021 from 1-4 PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Due to Covid 19 and government regulations, only 25 people are permitted in our chapel at one time and masks are required. Private burial will take place later at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Vernon was born November 11, 1944 in Flint, Michigan to Claude and Alberta (Bixby) Serr. He grew up in Clio and attended Clio High School. He married Barbara Ann Keen in Clio and she sadly preceded him in death on December 14, 2020. Vern proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1965. Vernon later went to work for General Motors at their Fisher Body Plant in Grand Blanc and retired with over 30 years of faithful service. He was also proud to be a member of the Masons, Vienna Lodge #205 F. & A.M. Vernon also had many hobbies, enjoying his time as the captain of the Genesee Belle at Crossroads Village, working at The Mounds ORV Park of Genesee County or being on his HAM Radio. He was also a “Jack of all trades” from laying carpet to working on cars, he could do it all.
Surviving are: Daughter, Sandy (Bob) Atwell of Clio; Grandchildren, Mistie (Jason) Rychwa, Ashley Brown, Bryan Peltonen, Aaron Peltonen, Tyler Peltonen, Justin (fiance Jennifer) Meiser, Jeremy (Melanie) Meiser and Zachary Atwell; Great Grandchildren, Bryce and Riley; Brother, Gail (Shirley) Serr of Burton, and many nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, daughter Pamela Peltonen in 2013, stepson Ronald Keen in 2016, parents Claud and Alberta, stepfather Edward Skodak, and grandson in law Aaron Brown.
