WEIDENHAMMER, John Franklin – of Lewiston, MI, age 93, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his residence. A Funeral Service will be held 12 Noon Friday, March 12, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc, 6106 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, MI 48439; Pastor Raleigh Adams officiating. Interment immediately following in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10:30AM until the time of the service at the First Baptist Church of Grand Blanc. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, in John’s memory.
John was born in Lapeer, MI on January 17, 1928, son of the late Herman and Ona (Morse) Weidenhammer. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War. During the Korean War, he served with the 92nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion and received the Presidential Unit Citation. John retired as a foreman from Buick. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, picking wild huckleberries, making maple syrup and he loved the outdoors.
John is survived by 2 daughters, Diane (James) Miller and Deborah Oaks; grandson, Jonathan Oaks; 2 brothers, Dale Weidenhammer and Marshal Weidenhammer; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ona Weidenhammer; son, John Weidenhammer II; daughter, Julie Weidenhammer; 7 brothers, Clayton, Herman, Ivan, Harold, Mort, Ellis and Delbert; 3 sisters, Doris, Joyce and Charlotte and son-in-law, Robert Oaks.
