GRASSL, Doris Erlene Langdon (Howlett) – of Burton, MI, age 93, passed peacefully at her home on Friday, July 30, 2021. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Joel Gilbert officiating. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-1 PM Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Allen Funeral Home.
Erlene was born in Flint, MI on January 26, 1928, daughter of the late George Halton and Nellie May (Dorris) Howlett. Growing up on her family’s successful dairy farm in Davison, Michigan with her four siblings in the post Great Depression era, life was simple and full. The youngest of the family, Erlene was a bright child who excelled in her studies. On August 7, 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Horace Kenneth Langdon, Jr., with whom she had four children. During the years she raised her family, circumstances required Erlene to go to work, and go to work she did. For six decades, she sold Stanley Home Products, setting numerous sales records, and earning multiple awards, eventually reaching the level of Regional Sales Director. Later in life, she met and married her love, Siegfried “Siggy” Grassl. The two enjoyed overseas travel to Germany, house remodeling projects, and rousing Euchre games. With her quick wit, contagious laugh, and varied interests, Erlene made friends easily. Her semi-retirement days would find her tending her flowers, bowling on various leagues, shopping, hosting, and attending get-togethers with her card-playing friends, caring for her home and property, and visiting with her family. Her competitive, feisty, and determined nature lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Erlene leaves behind her four children, Ken (Nancy) Langdon of Flint, MI, Joan (Randy) Bush of DeWitt, MI, Georgette (Chris) Aguilar of Rensselaer, IN and Lori (Mike) McKenna of Davison, MI; her stepdaughter, Renate (Matt) Ketels of Troy, MI; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Siggy Grassl; her parents, George Halton and Nellie May Howlett; her sister, Thelma Hopkins; her three brothers, Jay Howlett, Berrel Howlett, and Floyd Howlett.
She will be dearly missed.
