J.C. "Jim" Williams
Age 94, of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Pleasant View.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at West Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Jim was born on September 23, 1931, in New Haven Township, the son of J.C. and Lottie (Beamish) Williams. He attended New Haven Township School and remained a lifelong resident of the area.
He was a devoted member of Salem Lutheran Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon.
Whether Jim was cheering passionately for the Detroit Tigers or listening to polka music, he embraced every moment. Farming the family centennial farm wasn’t just a job; it was a heartfelt connection to his heritage. Jim possessed a remarkable talent of playing several musical instruments by ear, which included the organ, piano, guitar, banjo, and harmonica. Even at the age of 80, he self taught himself to play the button box accordion. Jim’s greatest joy came from his family. He was a constant presence in his grandchildren's lives, cheering them on at every event and celebrating their achievements with unwavering pride. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and a passion for music that will resonate through generations.
On October 17, 1953, he married the love of his life, Betty Frasier, at Salem Lutheran Church. They shared 65 wonderful years together before Betty's passing on February 6, 2019.
Jim retired from General Motors in 1984 after more than 30 years of dedicated service.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Terry (Jeffery) Barancik of Chesaning; his cherished grandchildren, Tara Barancik and her husband, Luke Raymond; Clayton Barancik and his fiancé, Amber McAllister; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Lydia McAllister; sister-in-laws, Ruth Williams and Dorothy Saulnier; brother-in-law, Fred Toma; many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Lelah Donahue, Lois Burke, Verna Harris, Wilmot Williams, Marge Jenkinson, Lottie (Pete) Rumisek, and Robert Williams.
Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to S.C.O.A. (The Shiawassee Council on Aging).
