Thomas Ray Finley was born in Flint, Michigan to Clarence and Florence (Spencer) Finley on July 22, 1945, he fell asleep in death peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was 77. The family will receive visitors on Saturday February 11, 2023 from 11AM until 12:30PM at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. A private burial will take place. In Lieu of flowers please plant a tree on a tree on the O’Guinn website in honor of Thomas.
Tom Ray (as family knew him) graduated from Clio High School in 1963. He was an honor student and earned a letter in Track. Following in his father’s footsteps, he hired in at General Motors and soon earned a degree in Skilled Trades as a Journeyman Tool and Dye Maker. Tom worked in his trade until he retired after 45 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army with respected honorable discharge.
He enjoyed traveling and camping. Loved to work in the garden and grew amazing flowers. Tom loved to work on cars and could repair almost anything he touched. He treated his siblings and his nieces and nephews with open arms for anything they may need. There are no words to describe the life of this wonderful man. He loved life and he filled everyday with hard work, not just for himself but for anyone who needed help. He was the definition of self-sacrifice, kindness, loyalty, dependability, of what it means to be a friend, to be a family, to be generous, and to give unconditional love. Above all, he lived for family, and had a special place in his heart even for animals: cared deeply about their welfare and comfort. Tom had a heart to give without any thought of receiving something in return. All who knew him were made better by having his example to follow. He is loved and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.
Surviving are: Siblings: Gary (Diana) Finley, Janice Sommerville, Joyce (John) Soldan, L. Terrance Spencer (Markus) Finley, Tammy (Keith) Hooks, Gregory (Kelly) Finley; Dear Friend and companion Todd Welton; several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Florence Finley, and brother, Dennis Finley; Brother In Law, William Sommerville. |
