ALLEN, ROBERT JAMES “BOB”-
Robert “Bob” James Allen, age 77, of Grand Blanc, Michigan was received by his LORD and Savior, on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Flint, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine (Fowler) and James T. Allen.
He was the loving father of Scott (Becky) Allen and Jeff Allen, and the brother of Jerry (Sherry) Allen. Robert was the grandfather of Gabrielle Allen, as well as Zachory and Joshua Wolfin. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Mairik Wolfin.
Bob was hired at Chevy Assembly, now Chevy Truck Assembly, in 1966. He was deeply involved in the UAW. He was elected alternate committeeman, unit chairman, committeeman, shop committeeman, and vice president. When President Sam Duncan passed away, he assumed the role of president. Bob’s desire was to be the financial secretary, and he eventually received this position. Impressively, as the financial secretary, he doubled the assets of UAW Local 598.
Later, Bob acquired land near Bishop Airport where he built a ballpark and retiree center that is today known as Union City Fields. Under his leadership, UAW Local 598 became the first local to establish the 25-year ring program.
In 1986, Bob was placed on the International Union staff at Region 1-C where he became an auditor. His duties required him to audit locals around the country, train other auditors and eventually creating the manuals required for new auditor training at the UAW Black Lake facility where Bob was a head instructor.
After Bob retired with 35 years of seniority, he moved to his beloved home on Wixom Lake.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed boating, clockmaking, and woodworking. He also enjoyed making memories with friends at the lake.
Ultimately, Bob moved back to the Grand Blanc area to be closer to his family. His loved ones miss him dearly, and they look forward to being reunited with him in Heaven.
Bob has chosen to be cremated. A memorial will be held to honor and celebrate his life at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Michigan. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm and from 5:30pm to 8:00pm with a Memorial service at 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
